Anna C. Leahy Papers

Anna C. Leahy (1888-1977), a forty year teaching veteran of the Fort Worth public schools, was primarily responsible for the first nationwide observance of May as Senior Citizens Month in 1963. She was also a director of Senior Citizens of America in Washington, D.C., from 1957-1967. Collection materials include correspondence, reports, proclamations, photographs, clippings, newsletters, booklets, commemorative stamp, and articles. Includes letters and proclamations from presidents, governors, mayors, and legislators; a history of the nationwide development of Senior Citizens Month by Leahy; and records from Leahy's service with Senior Citizens of America, 1956-1963.
