About This Journal
PALARA is the journal of the Afro-Latin/American Research Association (ALARA). ALARA is a dynamic organization of individual scholars working in the field of Afro-Latin American Studies. A majority of the membership are college/university professors trained in Latin American studies (literature, linguistics, sociology, political science, cultural studies, communication studies, history, etc.) whose research and/or teaching interests focus on cultural production and materiality of Africa descendants in North, Central and South America, the Caribbean basin and Equatorial Guinea (West Africa). http://alarascholars.org/
Peer Review Process
All manuscripts will be reviewed by peer reviewers who are experts in the field of African Diaspora Studies. Specific references which would identify the author(s) should be deleted for the blind-review process.
Author Guidelines
Manuscripts must be original work of the author(s) and not be submitted simultaneously for publication in other journals or books.
Manuscripts should be written in English, Spanish, French, or Portuguese.
Manuscripts should conform to the latest style manual of the individual discipline and may not exceed twenty-five (25) pages (text) in length.
The minimum number of text pages is eighteen (18).
Manuscripts should be submitted as a Word document, double-spaced in 12-point font, with one-inch margins, and numbered pages.
In addition to the title page of the manuscript, submissions should include an additional title page which lists the author(s) and designates the following information for each author: email address, phone number(s), and address. If the first author is not the corresponding author, that should be indicated.
Manuscripts must include an abstract of 100-200 words. The abstract should provide the major objectives, methods used, findings, and conclusions. The abstract should not include references or footnotes.
Manuscripts also must include a reference section.
Tables, figures, and illustrations should not be embedded in the manuscript, but they need to be included with a manuscript submitted so that reviewers have access to this information when reading the manuscript.
Book reviews of single works should have a maximum of 800 words; reviews that compare 2 or more works may be up to 1,500 words.
The journal does not have any article processing charges (APCs) or submission charges.
Potential contributors should contact the editor Sonja Watson at palara@alarascholars.org/ for questions.
