Abstract
There has been a push to implement the tenets of the Management Information Systems (MIS) by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Broadband Plan, and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, which have led to continued growth in the use of the electronic healthcare record (EHR). The adoption of innovative technologies in the digitization of health records, use of telehealth solutions, and global problems, such as the pandemic, have presented MIS professionals with “big data” concerns that effect source systems, marketing, strategic development, and data integration opportunities, both internally and externally. This paper addresses these concerns as healthcare moves forward as a major component of the domestic economy. Focusing on not only privacy and data security, but also addressing interoperability.
