Abstract
Design work from the 1980 fall semester, Studio Martin Price, School of Architecture, The University of Texas at Arlington. Dormitory. Robert Meckfessel. The aim of positioning the dorm at the periphery of the UTA commuter parking lot, is to attempt to socially intermix the student residents with students who commute to campus. The three dormitory pathways meander across a pond and form a connection to the University. These paths define the form of the linear buildings and arrive at a plaza that focuses on the main route through the campus. Roof profiles also meander and join an earth berm, giving the impression of penetrating through a landscaped knoll as one approaches the dorm. Part of the berm houses student lounges, and bay windows and porches sculpt the facades.
