Abstract
Design work from the 2004 fall semester, Studio Martin Price, School of Architecture, The University of Texas at Arlington. Art Center Expansion. Jenda Michl. The Art Center College of Design in Pasadena asked the studio to design an alternative solution for the expansion of their South Campus. The form of this project is based on lyrical lines of defined program and pedestrian roofscape which grow like branches of a tree from the existing Raymond Building, to form dormitories and street-front studios before intertwining with a depressed Glenarm Street to create a circulation node. Branches pivot to infill behind the existing Glenarm Building façade, culminating like blossoms to form distinct gallery, theatre, office, and museum spaces. Particular design emphasis was placed on the green pedestrian zones formed in-between and on top of the built elements.
