Abstract
Design work from the 2001 spring semester, Studio Martin Price, School of Architecture, The University of Texas at Arlington. Movie Theatres. Heath MacDonald. The project is sited adjacent to a courtyard-like enclosure just off the highway, at the entry to Ricardo Legorreta's Solana project in Southlake, Texas. The blank exterior walls cut into the ground, and sloping rooftops emerge above the earth and twist in rhythmic patterns around an entry courtyard. The profile is like an expressive series of dancing rock outcroppings. A crystalline entry form contains lines from famous films etched in color. Walkways bridge an open lobby volume and descend to the individual theatres. Entry to each theatre is from the upper part of the seating.
