Abstract

The research work focuses on analysis of composite beam, where a closed form analytical solution was developed to determine the sectional properties of composite beam with unsymmetrical C cross section. The sectional properties such as centroid, equivalent axial stiffness and equivalent bending stiffness are computed. A parametric study of shear center and centroid with different layup sequences was conducted using the developed solution. The ply stresses developed in the C beam is also calculated analytically and is verified by finite element analysis. The result from the proposed theory gives excellent agreement with the ANSYS™
