Abstract
This artwork was created during a time when my body was being taken over by an undiagnosed autoimmune disease. I was bedridden and my spine was unknowingly degenerating at a very fast rate. The month of May meant so many things for me: turning 20, final exams, scans, labs, doctors appointments, starting immunosuppressants, etc. I was so overwhelmed and felt very isolated. This is unfortunately the reality of many disabled and/or chronically ill college students. I created this piece to shine a light on what the life of someone dealing with these things, while also working towards a degree, might look like. It could even be the person sitting next to you in class.
