Description
Captain Barry T. Oxford, 27, college graduate from Hardin-Simmons University, was in one of the trenches about 2 a.m. on February 2 when the enemy made a determined assault. Oxford held up his right hand during the fight, and a hunk of shrapnel from a mortar smashed into his ring, shattering its blue stone. The ring saved his finger, he said.
