A.C. Greene Papers

 
Alvin Carl Greene (1923-2002) was born in Abilene, Texas and worked as a newspaper columnist and editor for the Abilene Reporter-News, the Dallas Times Herald, and the Dallas Morning News; Greene was also an author, teacher, bookstore owner, musician, poet, and radio and television talk show host. Materials include correspondence, diaries, manuscripts, photographs, oral histories, awards and certificates, essays, posters, newspapers and clippings, scrapbooks, maps, research materials, notes, and memorabilia. The papers reflect Greene’s creative and historical writing; business transactions; newspaper, radio, television, and teaching careers; and personal and family life.

    Dinner program held in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt, held in Dallas, Texas on April 5, 1905. The text on the cover reads, at top left, "Roosevelt, our President" and at lower left the text reads "A Square Deal for Every Man" and at lower right the text reads "Dallas, Texas, April 5th, 1905." The first right interior page reads "Banquet in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt, tendered by Citizens of Dallas, Texas, Oriental Hotel, April 5th, 1905." The left interior page includes a list of committee members. The second page of the program features a header reading "Music" and appears to include a list of 10 music pieces that were to be performed by the Hella Temple Orchestra. The third page of the program features a header reading "Menu" and appears to include a list dishes and drinks to be served at the dinner. The fourth page of the program features a header reading "Toasts" and includes a list of names of people who were to give toasts at the event. The back cover of the program features a star emblem.

    Program for a banquet held in honor of President William H. Taft, held in Dallas, Texas at the Oriental Hotel on October 23, 1909. The text in the top right corner reads "Texas Under Six Flags" and a list of countries and dates are seen along the right side of the page, reading "France, 1658-1687; Spain, 1687-1820; Mexico, 1820-1835; Republic of Texas, 1836-1846; Confederacy, 1861-1865; The United States, 1845 and Forever." The text towards the bottom of the page reads "Banquet in honor of William H. Taft, President of the United States, tendered by Citizens of Dallas, Oriental Hotel, October twenty third, 1909." There are five miniature flags fixed to the cover of the program, one flag of France is missing. The first page of the program features a photograph of President William H. Taft as well as excerpts from the President's speech delivered in Atlanta, Georgia on January 15, 1909. The second page of the program features names of members of "The Presidential Party." The third page of the program features a header reading "A Simple Dinner" and appears to include a menu, a list of food dishes and drinks to be served at the dinner. The fourth page of the program features a header reading "Toasts" and includes a list of names of people who were to give toasts at the event. The back page on the inside cover of the program features a header reading "List of Committees" and lists the names of members of several different committees.
