Abstract

Domestic violence is a pervasive and systemic issue that affects millions of people worldwide and has serious repercussions for families, individuals, and society at large. The research investigates how legal frameworks, societal conventions, and cultural values interact to impact the prevalence and resolution of domestic violence in contemporary society. The study looks at the extent institutional biases, social stigma, and deeply ingrained legal policies hinder efficient victim support, prevention, and intervention. The study combines quantitative analysis of case data, public opinion, and survey results with qualitative analysis of legal frameworks and peer-reviewed literature using a mixed-methods design. The two-pronged approach provides a thorough examination of the obstacles that social norms and legal frameworks present to the equitable and just treatment of victims of domestic abuse. The study identifies the intersectional factors; race, gender, v and socioeconomic status that result in the treatment of marginalized groups differently during legal proceedings, pointing out that these factors increase the vulnerability of victims. Research indicates that even after substantial legal reform, there are still gaps in systemic support and enforcement. The most notable of these is the ongoing reliance on harsh legal remedies that might disregard the needs and opinions of survivors. The report suggests a change to restorative justice frameworks and survivor-led models that put healing and accountability ahead of punishment. To address the underlying causes of domestic violence and offer victims genuine protection and support, the conclusion urges coordinated systemic change in the legal system as well as in society at large.
