The spectacular celestial charts from Doppelmayr and Homann's Atlas Globi Coelestis in Tabulas Planas Redacti (The Celestial Globe Rendered as Planes) series capture the beauty of ancient mythology, as well as help us understand the significance of astrology. Originally developed in 1716-1724, and printed in 1742, these charts were Illustrated and Cartographed by Johann Gabriel Doppelmayr, and published under The Homann Firm founded by Johann Baptista Homannin Nuremberg in 1702.  The chart is drawn in a gnonomic projection, or a spherical projection with little distortion, which was useful for navigational purposes alongside the longitudes and latitudes.  On the chart's sides are lists of the groups of stars that make up the constellations with their longitude and latitudes in Latin. Since we do not use astrology and/or mythology in our daily lives in the 21st century, much of the history of these constellations has since been forgotten. What is most known is the assigning of certain personality traits to the month of the Zodiac sign you were born in.  Although this can be fun, the history and mythology/astrology of the Zodiac is much more significant and detailed, with some Zodiac signs predating the 2nd century.
