Abstract
Seed: Strategies, Events, Episodes + Devices, offered by The University of Texas at Arlington School of Architecture and supported by AIA Dallas and AIA Fort Worth. SEED is a program designed to encourage talented high school students to consider architecture as a future course of study. High performing students from the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex were nominated by their teachers to participate in a two-week summer camp led by School of Architecture faculty. Seventeen students from six area high schools were invited by the School of Architecture at the University of Texas at Arlington to participate in SEED 2010. SEED is the abbreviation for Strategies, Events, Episodes + Devices and the name suggests the breadth of activities offered during the two week camp to encourage the study of architecture at the university level. The primary challenge for each student is to prepare a built project for exhibition at the conclusion of the camp. Although the focus is on building, exercises in free-hand drawing and graphic presentation revealed the varied skills of the participants and strengthened the design process of each student.
